Member of Technical Staff, Founding Frontend Engineer
About the role
Frontend Engineer role at Ocular AI focusing on design-driven, high-performance web applications for multimodal data annotation and visualization. Report to founders in a fast-moving YC-backed startup.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain complex, stateful frontend applications that handle millions of entities efficiently.
- Design Collaborative Canvas: multimodal data annotation and visualization on collaborative canvases.
- Multimodal Rendering: develop 2D and 3D rendering products for advanced data annotation workflows.
- UI/UX Excellence: establish and enforce a consistent, delightful user experience across products.
- Elevate Standards: drive improvements in engineering best practices, tooling, and processes to deliver maintainable and scalable codebases.
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in frontend engineering
- Proficiency in Next.js, React, Redux, and Recoil (or similar state management)
- Experience with deployment platforms like Vercel and CMS platforms like Contentful
- Familiarity with analytics platforms such as PostHog
- Experience with WebSockets, LiveBlocks, or similar real-time collaborative technologies
- Knowledge of multimodal rendering on web canvases (image/video/audio)
- Proficiency in Figma and Spline
- Strong design sensibility and ability to collaborate with marketing/design teams
- Startup mindset and ability to work in person in San Francisco
