About the role
Senior Researchers are the intellectual leaders of GiveWell’s work, shaping ambitious research agendas to inform high-impact grantmaking in global health and poverty alleviation. The role combines rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and judgment to direct hundreds of millions of dollars to effective programs, with opportunities for internal development and potential progression to Senior Program Officer.
Responsibilities
- Join a small senior team to set ambitious research agendas and identify high-impact questions.
- Execute research agenda through thorough review of empirical evidence, cost-effectiveness modeling, expert discussions, and contextual understanding.
- Inform allocation of hundreds of millions of dollars to grantees and communicate externally about the work.
- Mentor and advise other team members.
- Develop and lead research agendas that combine rigor and creativity to address thorny questions.
Qualifications
- Quantitatively-oriented advanced degree with substantial relevant experience using empirical tools to make evidence-based decisions (typically 5-10 years post-grad).
- Ability to lead research with independence and drive, and to communicate findings clearly to external audiences.
