About the role
Lead medicinal chemistry efforts to deliver hits, leads, and clinical candidates, managing a team of synthetic chemists and collaborating with other departments to advance drug discovery projects.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, mentor, and manage performance of PhD and M.Sc. synthetic chemists in the medicinal chemistry team.
- Collaborate with peers in Medicinal Chemistry and other functional departments (ADME, Analytical Sciences, Pharmacology).
- Lead Medicinal Chemistry activities related to lead generation and optimization of pipeline projects.
- Understand and analyze Structure-Activity Relationships (SAR) and Structure-Property Relationships (SPR).
- Develop flow schemes for relevant in vitro and in vivo assays.
- Allocate resources effectively to maximize cost efficiency.
- Work with project management for project planning and progress tracking.
- Present project updates at various company forums.
- Promote and ensure safe practices in chemistry laboratories.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Philosophy in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
- 15-20 years of post-PhD experience in Medicinal Chemistry.
- Proven track record of delivering hits, leads, and clinical candidates in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience in managing and mentoring synthetic chemists.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property related to medicinal chemistry.
- Good understanding of laboratory safety practices.
