About the role

Senior Backend Engineer to join Spotify's Subscriptions Mission, building and maintaining systems that drive user conversion, retention and upsells. Focus on a platformised approach with machine learning and personalization to create cohesive, multi-channel experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop and operate Java services that serve users through the merchandising platform to enable cohesive and relevant conversion and upsell journeys.
  • Collaborate with squad and internal partners to design scalable backend systems, data models and APIs on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Be a technical leader, mentor and valued contributor in an autonomous, cross-functional agile squad, in close collaboration with other squads and business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other squads, engineering managers and product managers to identify and solve challenging problems, to scale automation and new platform capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of working experience as a Backend Engineer with Java.
  • Experience with gRPC, GCP, BigQuery and Bigtable is a plus.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals and experience building complex backend services at scale.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and scaling cloud-native software components on providers such as GCP, AWS.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to understand, document and develop APIs and systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams and independently drive complex delivery initiatives.
  • Experience writing distributed, high-volume services and deploying/operating them in production.
  • Growth mindset and alignment with Spotify Mission.
  • Nice-to-haves: experience modelling, building and operating integrations with external CMS solutions or ML collaborations for recommendations and data pipelines.
