About the role
Head of Operations to own and scale Gemnote's warehouse, fulfillment, and global logistics infrastructure in San Leandro, CA. Hands-on, build-from-zero-to-one role focused on scaling startup operations for a modern merchandising company.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all warehouse operations, including managing onsite team of 3-5 people in San Leandro, CA; ensure warehouse organization, inventory accuracy and on-time shipment performance
- Improve SOPs, inventory systems, and fulfillment workflows; implement operational KPIs and reporting dashboards to increase efficiency
- Plan and execute expansion into additional warehouse and/or fulfillment space; hire and build out fulfillment and operations teams as needed
- Optimize and manage relationships with existing carriers; negotiate terms yearly to ensure best rates
- Build or improve overseas freight forwarding strategy; optimize international shipping, landed costs and customs processes
- Explore and evaluate overseas distribution partnerships to reduce fulfillment timelines and international shipping expenses
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams like Sales, Merchandising and Project Coordinators
- Forecast operational needs based on revenue growth
- Improve margin through operational efficiencies
Qualifications
- 5+ years in operations, supply chain, logistics or fulfillment
- Experience scaling physical operations at a startup
- Comfortable in warehouses
- Data-driven and systems-oriented
- Willing to go onsite or travel to ensure inventory and daily operations are running smoothly at warehouse locations
- High ownership mindset - you don’t wait to be told what to fix
- Scrappy, resourceful and solutions-focused
