About the role

Apple Cloud Networking team builds software-defined network infrastructure as part of Apple Cloud, delivering services at scale. The role focuses on building, deploying, and operating platforms for large-scale distributed systems with emphasis on observability, reliability, and networking, contributing to end-to-end design and development for hyper-scale infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and support foundational platforms for large-scale distributed systems (observability, architecture, design, and development)
  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects, influence multi-functional teams, and drive alignment across teams
  • Own and lead sophisticated systems and platforms for solving problems at scale
  • Engage in end-to-end design, development, and support of platforms including documentation and tooling

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code / configuration management tools and APIs (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform)
  • Experience building monitoring, alerting, and observability for large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience working with bare metal systems and knowledge of operating systems
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols and packet forwarding architecture
  • Knowledge of SDN protocols and APIs (NETCONF, gRPC, gNMI, OpenFlow, etc.)
  • Experience building monitoring and observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, time-series databases)
  • Knowledge of data center networking and network virtualization (VXLAN, VRFs, overlays)
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale production systems
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Strong and proven record of working with cross-functional teams
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to articulate concepts, designs, and decisions
  • Software development skills in compiled languages (Golang, etc)
  • Understanding of virtualization and containerization technologies (Docker, VMs, Kubernetes, etc)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, architectures, and APIs
  • Experience with integration/interactions of tooling with APIs
