About the role

IS&T’s Customer Systems Operations team at Apple seeks an Operations Engineer to design and develop automation solutions for system sustenance, monitoring, and operational workflows. The role involves incident management, capacity planning, deployment safety, and building tooling to support Apple’s enterprise-scale customer support platforms and AppleCare online support site.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automation solutions to streamline system sustenance, monitoring, and operational workflows
  • Collaborate closely with support and engineering teams
  • Manage incidents (SEV1/SEV2), lead incident bridges, conduct blameless postmortems, and drive problem management initiatives
  • Capac ity planning, deployment safety, and development of operational tooling
  • Support mission-critical production applications in an enterprise environment
  • Lead global operations teams in large-scale environments and collaborate across teams
  • Develop and maintain observability and monitoring solutions using tools like Hubble, ExtraHop, Splunk
  • Support scalable, event-driven architectures (Kafka or equivalent) and high-availability platforms
  • Provide insight into networking, distributed systems, and Linux internals to ensure reliable operations
  • Contribute to automation with Python/Linux, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes/EKS, and self-healing systems
  • Apply AI/ML for operational automation (anomaly detection, predictive alerting, automated incident response)

Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience supporting mission critical production applications in an enterprise environment
  • 2+ years of Software development experience building highly scalable RESTful web services, or equivalent combination
  • Java development, J2EE, and related experience
  • Experience troubleshooting, log analysis, metrics building, and operational dashboards
  • Fundamental understanding of distributed systems (microservices, messaging brokers) and Linux internals
  • Demonstrated ability to lead SEV1/SEV2 incident bridges and drive postmortems
  • Proven experience leading global operations teams in large-scale enterprise environments
  • Expertise in observability and monitoring tools (Hubble, ExtraHop, Splunk) or similar
  • Strong foundation in networking (HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, ICMP, OSI Model, Subnetting, Load Balancing)
  • Hands-on engineering background with Java/JEE, REST APIs, Swift/Objective-C, databases, and modern frontend technologies (React, JavaScript)
  • Proficiency in supporting scalable, event-driven architectures (Kafka or equivalent) and high-availability platforms
  • Experience applying AI/ML for operational automation (anomaly detection, predictive alerting, automated incident response)
