About the role

Research Scientist at Waabi focusing on inventing AI technologies for autonomous trucking, contributing to end-to-end learning systems and the Waabi World simulator, and publishing work at top conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to AI research projects, pushing the frontiers of the field by developing new algorithms for our autonomy system and state-of-the-art simulator.
  • Work on problems related to self-driving including perception, motion forecasting, controls, sensor simulation, scenario generation, behavior modeling, mapping, localization, intelligent data mining & analysis, and safe deployment.
  • Develop innovative solutions using AI advances (transformers, foundational models, LLMs/VLMs, generative modeling, imitation/reinforcement learning, inverse rendering, etc.).
  • Support deploying research solutions to production systems, collaborating with platform teams for seamless integration.
  • Stay up-to-date and advance beyond state-of-the-art in AI, ML, CV, and self-driving tech.
  • Champion engineering excellence with high-quality, well-structured and tested code.
  • Submit and publish work externally at NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, CVPR, etc. and post to company blog.

Qualifications

  • Masters/PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics or related field (exceptional Bachelor’s candidates considered).
  • Demonstrated research experience through internships, work, projects, and papers at top conferences.
  • Strong quantitative background in linear algebra, calculus, and probability.
  • Proficient in Python.
  • Collaborative team player with willingness to help others.
  • Passionate about self-driving technologies and solving hard problems.
