About the role

Leader for building and operating large-scale distributed storage and database systems, guiding cross-functional teams across big data, high-volume, low-latency services, and highly available transactional systems. Focus on developing core software, automated tests, release and reliability engineering, and infrastructure optimization across multiple platforms for Apple’s storage and database platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow teams responsible for developing core software, building automated tests, and driving release and reliability engineering for systems that scale to billions of users and petabytes of data.
  • Guide architecture and solutions across big data, high-volume, low-latency services, and highly available transactional systems.
  • Collaborate across organizational boundaries and diverse reporting structures with adjacent functions such as EPM, SRE, PM, Finance, and Security.
  • Leverage state-of-the-art technologies to automate and optimize infrastructure across multiple platforms.
  • Deliver solutions that are maintainable, understandable, and diagnosable under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • 18+ years of experience leading high-velocity, cross-functional teams through vision and influence.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and deliver across functions to meet key milestones.
  • Experience managing or operating distributed systems and delivering internet-scale services.
  • Infrastructure expertise in storage, networking, and CDNs.
  • Highly technical, detail-oriented, and willing to drive architecture and solutions.
  • Deep commitment to service delivery, including reliability, operations, and support.
  • Experience with the lower layers of the storage software stack (filesystems, block devices, SSDs).
  • Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Cassandra, Redis, Solr, or Voldemort.
  • Prior experience developing distributed databases or large-scale storage systems.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science and Engineering or related field.
