About the role

Apple is seeking a Product Design Engineer with strong mechanical design skills to lead projects in a multi-functional setting, build prototypes for design validation, drive failure analysis, and work on-site at contract manufacturers in India to enable scale for iPhones. The role requires balancing multiple priorities on demanding schedules and excellent communication with vendors in Asia and internal teams at Apple.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding design solutions while balancing multiple priorities on demanding schedules.
  • Build prototypes for design validation and drive failure analysis.
  • Primarily work on-site at contract manufacturers within India to implement and integrate iPhones at scale.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of demonstrated ability in mechanical design (preferably consumer electronics products)
  • Bachelor's with a specialisation in Mechanical/Aerospace/Mechatronics Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability in plastic and metal part design, including material selection
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing, with a focus on high-volume manufacturing
  • Experience with technical graphical communication of concepts, ideas, and solutions
  • Experience with component modules (OLED/LCD, batteries, sensing, acoustic, camera modules, etc.)
  • Integration of wireless antenna (Cellular, GPS, WiFi, BT) into mechanical enclosures (huge plus)
  • Integration of electrical subsystems (OLED/LCD, sensing, microphone, speaker, receiver, camera)
  • Experience with 3D CAD modelling systems and workflow
  • Solid understanding of FEA (stress analysis)
  • Ability to travel internationally (20%+)
  • Master’s/PhD degree with a specialization in Mechanical/Aerospace/Mechatronics Engineering (desirable)
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers (highly desirable)
  • Handheld/portable device experience (big plus)
  • Design of highly cosmetic enclosures with liquid and dust ingress protection (big plus)
  • Siemens NX proficiency preferred
  • Passion for making great products and solving tough design problems
