About the role

Mechanical/enclosure components design and manufacturing engineering role at Apple, focusing on secondary process development for plastic, rubber, and metal components, coordinating with product design, suppliers, and global teams to scale manufacturing processes with a strong emphasis on process development, equipment qualification, and problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the secondary process development work of multi-type plastic / rubber / metal components of Apple products (CNC, Polishing, Welding, surface treatment, etc).
  • Design the secondary process based on cosmetic and drawing requirements, pioneer new materials/processes or surface finishes, map process flow, select equipment, create fixtures/automation, initiate DOEs, optimize machine setups, polishing paths and parameters, and finalize the process solution from prototype to mass production.
  • Deeply involve in working on multiple customized processes in the scope of CNC, Polishing, PVD, Chemical Treatment, Sand Blasting, Anodizing, Cleaning, Laser etching, Welding, Automation, etc.
  • Work multi-functionally with Product Design to assess manufacturability and recommend capable production processes and equipment.
  • Work with Global Supply Managers to develop new equipment from RFQ through factory implementation and deliver material on time and cost targets.
  • Work with Manufacturing Quality Engineers to drive yield improvement through part quality analysis, defect Pareto, and SPC.
  • Work heavily with suppliers to define and refine mechanical tooling and fixtures, and establish process capability and readiness.
  • Coordinate activities and direction through clear communication between Asia and US-based teams and vendors.
  • Travel as needed (Critical business travel 50% mainly in Asia area).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or above in Mechanical Engineering and/or relevant manufacturing work experiences
  • 5+ years of related manufacturing design experience, especially for consumer electronics products
  • Skilled in GD&T, DOE, SPC
  • Proficient English and Mandarin
  • Experiences of process technical development including CNC, Polishing, Consumable Material Wheels/Sandpapers, Blasting Media, Chemical Treatment, Cleaning, Laser Application, Automation, etc.
  • Experiences in developing customized machines in consumer electronics industry (CNC machines, Polish equipment, Robot application, Cosmetic/Dimension Inspection equipment, Roughness and Texture Control, etc.)
  • Understanding of experimental design, root cause analysis and statistical process control
  • Working experience for AI/ML
  • Good analytical skills and ability to reason on articulated issues
  • Team player, self-motivated, results oriented and detail oriented; able to influence across multiple functional teams
  • Flexibility to adapt to dynamic and evolving environments
