About the role

Role focused on designing and implementing physical design methodologies to optimize power, performance, and area (PPA) for Apple SoCs. Collaborates with CAD/design teams, validates methodologies with silicon measurements, and applies data science/ML where appropriate to improve interconnects, signoff flows, and overall PPA.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement methodologies that improve robustness, power, performance, and area (PPA) of on-chip interconnects.
  • Perform electrical analysis to understand how physical effects impact design performance.
  • Develop construction methodologies to mitigate PPA degradation found in silicon.
  • Ensure silicon modeling is efficient and accurate by running signoff flows and comparing results to measurements from silicon.
  • Collaborate with the standard cell team to identify new cells to improve PPA, yield, or productivity.
  • Work with CAD and design teams to drive improvements and updates in production design flows.
  • Verify theories by creating a strategy to verify them in silicon.
  • Apply advances in data science and machine learning when crafting methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity with excellent communication skills.
  • Organized, self-starter, adaptable to challenges.
  • At least 5 years of physical design experience on SoC designs.
  • Experience working with advanced technology nodes.
  • Deep knowledge of interconnects, parasitic extraction, performance analysis, and manufacturing effects on non-idealities; extensive knowledge of power delivery and supply-noise impact on chip performance.
  • Understanding of inductance effects and circuit design; comfortable running and modifying Spice simulations.
  • Familiar with static timing analysis tools and methodologies; ability to explain silicon behaviors.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python and Tcl.
  • Experience with flow development for a large user base on tight schedules is a plus.
