About the role

SOC performance modeling software engineer on the system-on-chip (SOC) performance team within Apple’s Hardware Technologies organization. Focus on performance models and infrastructure to enable high-quality, timely data for hardware design, translating design space studies into software models, and supporting full lifecycle from architectural exploration to post-silicon correlation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-performance C++ software models for SOC performance
  • Translate design space studies into executable models
  • Develop APIs accessible to non-expert C++ developers
  • Train AI agents and non-expert developers on idiomatic code and methods
  • Ensure codebase is structured for AI-assisted development tools
  • Write clear, self-documenting code with consistent conventions and modular design
  • Learn state-of-the-art SoC IP and chip-level architecture
  • Work on data analysis pipelines, visualization methodologies, and continuous regression testing
  • Run performance simulations
  • Analyze and present simulation results
  • Collaborate across SOC architecture, design, power, and software teams to optimize caches/memory systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or related field
  • Experience in hardware architecture and design issues
  • Experience coding in C++ and Python
  • Experience with computer architecture and software engineering principles
  • Experience with data structures and algorithms
  • MS or PhD in CS, EE or related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with multi-paradigm software development in C++
  • Experience with multi-language programming environments
  • Experience with compiler exploration and understanding compiler transformations
  • Experience designing code for readability by humans and machines and AI-assisted navigation
  • Experience with architectural and micro-architectural performance modeling
