About the role

Apple is seeking a Product Design Engineer to join the Product Design Group in Shanghai or Shenzhen, China. The role focuses on engineering excellence, cross-functional collaboration, and delivering solid design solutions across multiple projects with demanding schedules. Travel up to 50% is required.

Responsibilities

  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously with demanding schedule requirements across a large cross functional team
  • Deliver solid design solutions while balancing multiple priorities
  • Work closely with suppliers
  • Apply or create processes to solve complex problems
  • Participate in design cycles from concept through manufacturing
  • Collaborate with Contract Manufacturing Partners

Qualifications

  • High degree of motivation, curiosity, passion, creativity
  • Proficient English communication skills in both written and verbal
  • Engineering fundamentals: statics, strength of materials, material science
  • CAD skills: 3D CAD experience required (NX preferred)
  • Design intelligence: mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, spatial reasoning, diligence in finding the best solution for each design challenge, attention to detail
  • Basic design skills: tolerances analysis, design for assembly (DFA), design for manufacturing (DFM), simple fixture design, understanding of Statistical Process Controls (SPC), understanding of metrology (basic knowledge of measurement systems)
  • Experience in design cycle from concept through manufacturing
  • Experience in designing mechanical components for high volume manufacturing (injection molded parts, sheet metal components, die-cast and machined parts)
  • Experience in team work with Contract Manufacturing Partners
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% throughout a year
