About the role

Patent Agent or Patent Attorney to develop and curate Apple’s hardware and mechanical patent portfolio. Collaborates with mechanical engineering, design, and business teams to build and prosecute the worldwide patent portfolio and strategy, identify patentable inventions, support patent transactions and licensing, manage outside counsel, and provide cross-functional support for acquisition due diligence, IP licensing, enforcement, and litigation activities.

Responsibilities

  • - Identify patentable inventions and secure high-quality, strategic patent assets
  • - Develop and prosecute worldwide patent portfolio and strategy
  • -Provide expert technical and legal analysis; handle patent challenges
  • -Provide guidance in support of patent transactions and licensing matters
  • -Assign and manage work performed by outside law firms
  • -Collaborate with engineering and business organizations to understand priorities and challenges
  • -Provide cross-functional support for acquisition due diligence, IP licensing, enforcement, and litigation activities

Qualifications

  • - USPTO Registered Patent Agent or Patent Attorney
  • - BS or higher degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • - 5+ years of patent-focused work experience drafting and prosecuting patent assets, managing portfolios, developing patent strategies, conducting patent analysis, and providing support for transactions and litigation efforts
  • - 3+ years of work experience patenting primarily mechanical related technologies at a law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • - Excellent verbal and written communication
