About the role

Lead selection, implementation and optimization of iPhone manufacturing processes for mechanical enclosure machining and surface treatment. Drive manufacturability assessments with Product and Industrial Design, develop robust processes, fixtures, and equipment, and coordinate cross-functional activities across Asia and the US to support development and mass production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead selection, implementation & optimization of iPhone manufacturing processes for mechanical enclosure machining, surface treatment.
  • Lead team to design process based on product drawing and cosmetic requirements; map out process flow and ERS including selecting processing equipment, designing fixtures, initiating DOEs.
  • Assess product features for manufacturability with cross-functional teams (Product Design and Industrial Design) and recommend capable production processes and equipment.
  • Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and product production ramps.
  • Coordinate activities and communication between Asia- and US-based teams, and vendors.
  • Collaborate with fellow Manufacturing Design Engineers in developing these processes.
  • Drive development of manufacturing processes—including CNC, laser, assembly, and automation—by assessing process flows, reviewing fixture design for manufacturability (DFM), and applying proper datums to minimize tolerance stack-up.
  • Scope machining programs to optimize cycle times, and develop advanced cutters with specialized coatings to achieve highly shiny or fine texture surfaces while minimizing burrs.
  • Establish machine calibration criteria, down-select equipment based on capability, and work with vendors to develop, validate, and qualify brand-new equipment from RFQ to implementation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to define and refine mechanical tools and fixtures, establishing process readiness to secure dimensional and cosmetic requirements.
  • Lead cycle time reductions in the NPI stage to hit mass production targets, and review vendor in-process control specifications based on downstream processes and 2D drawings.
  • Identify, research, and qualify premier equipment manufacturers and suppliers to develop sophisticated equipment that fulfills supply chain requirements.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Global Supply Managers to assess facilities, and with Manufacture Quality Engineers to drive yield improvements through SPC and Pareto data reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related manufacturing field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience and technical knowledge in fixture design, cutter design, and manufacturing processes (including CNC, laser, assembly, automation) within the consumer electronics industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD, CAM, JMP software, and GD&T to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication, with fluency in both English and Mandarin.
