About the role

Apple seeks highly motivated engineering students for software internship roles across Back-End Engineering, Core OS, Web Development, and iOS/macOS app development. Interns will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment on projects spanning backend data delivery, OS integration, UX/UI, iOS/web tools, IS&T infrastructure, and information security. The program runs with the expectation that students return to school after the internship or that it is their final graduation requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Back-end development — help build features used by applications like Siri, Apple Music, iCloud, Apple Maps by presenting data to user-facing applications
  • Design and build — develop fully integrated operating systems combining hardware, software, and services into a single Apple experience
  • User Experience (UX) — assist in building elegant UX experiences that are simple, intuitive, and impactful
  • UI development — work with UX team, back-end engineers and front-end engineers to develop a web portal for end-to-end software development journey
  • iOS and Web Development — build web-based and iOS tools and applications to improve products and customer outcomes
  • crafting product direction considering architecture, performance, testing, design, and implementation
  • Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) — build applications that improve Apple Store experience and support customers globally
  • Information Security — help protect Apple's information and monitor threats and vulnerabilities
  • Engage in both UI level and lower-level implementation details
  • participate in a fast-paced, dynamic, collaborative environment
  • Pursue cross-disciplinary collaboration within software engineering positions

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an undergraduate (BS/BA) degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Design, Information Security or related fields.
  • Must return to school at internship end or the internship must be the last requirement for graduation.
  • Strong object-oriented design skills and deep knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
  • Proficiency in Java, C/C++, PHP, Python, Ruby, Unix, MySQL, Clojure, Scala, JavaScript, CSS, HTML5, Swift.
  • Experience in Data Modeling, Validation, Processing, MapReduce.
  • Experience with distributed technologies such as HDFS, Spark, Golang, Hadoop, MongoDB, Pig, Hive.
  • Experience with web frameworks such as AngularJS, NodeJS, SproutCore.
  • Experience with iOS/macOS development in Swift, XCode, or Objective-C.
  • Client-Server protocol and API design skills.
  • Ability to translate multi-functional requirements into engineering tasks.
  • Fundamental knowledge of embedded processors and real-time OS concepts.
  • Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
