About the role
Senior ML engineer responsible for applying ML across control systems in mineral processing, including reinforcement learning in simulations, time-series forecasting, vision, soft sensors, and fault diagnostics; sets technical direction, builds solutions end-to-end, and mentors engineers.
Responsibilities
- Reinforcement learning agents that learn to control processes in simulation
- Time-series models for forecasting and detection
- Vision systems that measure things no instrument can
- Soft sensors that estimate lab results we can't get back fast enough
- Classifiers that flag faults early
- Set technical direction for applied ML across sites and build much of it yourself, from data to deployment
- Deciding where ML is worth it and prioritizing projects that improve recovery, uptime, or cost
- Time-series work: forecasting, anomaly and excursion detection, predictive maintenance, and soft sensors
- Computer vision on circuits, conveyors, and equipment under challenging conditions
- Classification and diagnostics for faults, product quality, and process state
- Setting the deployment bar for models and validating them for real-world use in control rooms
- Writing modeling standards, reviewing designs, and mentoring engineers
- Collaborating with autonomy/controls team and data engineering
- Reinforcement learning in process simulators and transferring to the real plant
Qualifications
- 8 to 10+ years in ML engineering, or 6+ with clear org-level technical leadership
- Experience putting models into production in physical world and maintaining them
- Shipped work in at least two of: time-series, computer vision, reinforcement learning, and classical supervised learning (ability to pick up a third)
- Experience with industrial sensor data: historians, SCADA/DCS, OPC-UA, or similar
- Experience with scarce labels, drift, and rare events; ability to quantify uncertainty
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams (robotics, chemistry, metallurgy, process engineering, geology) and provide technical leadership
- Strong track record of building and shipping systems
