About the role
Senior AI R&D Engineer focused on model training and pipeline development for Aleph Alpha's foundation models, with hands-on software engineering, infrastructure contributions, and collaboration in a hybrid on-site setting in Heidelberg/Berlin.
Responsibilities
- Work across the full stack of the model training pipeline, including optimizing training loads on the cluster, enabling large-scale code execution for reinforcement learning, and improving evaluation throughput.
- Contribute to building and improving the training pipeline and infrastructure, with real influence on what gets built and how.
- Identify issues and take initiative in day-to-day work.
- Collaborate with the team using techniques like mob/pair programming; ensure maintainable code through tests and architecture changes.
Qualifications
- Ability to dive into a codebase, modify behavior, and ensure changes come with better tests and readability.
- Understanding of low coupling and high cohesion design, and ability to incrementally refactor.
- Experience with design and development practices such as Test Driven Development (TDD), trunk-based development, Continuous Integration, and Domain Driven Design.
