About the role

Apple's Environmental Technologies team seeks a hands-on Product Environmental Compliance Engineer to drive product-level environmental compliance throughout the hardware development cycle, partnering with multiple engineering and operations teams to meet worldwide environmental requirements and advance beyond compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Apple’s environmental compliance on hardware products through the full development cycle; engage with product development teams to inform and execute environmental goals and targets; track progress during definition and concept phases; solve complex problems.
  • Partner with hardware, software, mechanical, packaging, and operations teams to translate regulations and environmental requirements into clear product requirements.
  • Plan and oversee compliance testing at Apple and partner labs; review measurement and material declaration data; document conformity for internal review and external certification.
  • Contribute to Apple's Product Environmental Reports and to data underpinning Apple's 2030 carbon-neutral commitment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in engineering or science, or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience driving regulatory compliance projects and/or validation efforts to ensure product compliance
  • Project management experience—managing, organizing, and driving deliverables of complex projects with tight timelines
  • Strong technical communication and documentation skills—written and verbal with diverse audiences
  • Knowledge of consumer electronic product-related environmental regulations and standards
  • Thrive in fast-paced environments with strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter with integrity and passion for environmental compliance and Apple’s environmental mission
  • Comfortable participating in design reviews to advise on applicable product compliance requirements
  • Ability to lead regulatory compliance projects with agencies and test labs, including preparing and filing compliance documentation
  • Experience engaging with R&D, operations, and marketing on complex projects
  • Ability to influence outcomes in cross-functional environments
  • Experience in test plan development and hands-on troubleshooting to mitigate compliance risks
  • Ability to work with multiple external lab partners to set up, execute, and monitor testing
  • Strong foundation in Environmental regulations and standards (e.g., EU RoHS, REACH, Energy-related Product framework, Eco Design, Energy Star, DoE energy efficiency requirements)
