About the role

DataServices Engineer to architect, scale, and evolve data infrastructure across cloud and on-prem environments. Responsible for delivering high-performance, highly available data services (relational, NoSQL, streaming, and search) to power Apple's financial systems at massive scale. Drive design and operational excellence of critical data platforms, lead automation initiatives, and collaborate with application teams.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and scale distributed data platforms in large-scale production environments (Cassandra, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis)
  • Lead technical projects independently from scoping and design through delivery and post-launch ownership
  • Design hybrid or multi-cloud architectures leveraging AWS data services (Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS MSK, ElastiCache)
  • Build reusable, scalable automation with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, Crossplane or equivalent)
  • Deploy and operate containerized database workloads on Kubernetes in production
  • Develop automation and platform workflows using Python
  • Understand database internals (query optimization, cluster tuning, capacity planning, failure analysis)
  • Design and execute HA/DR strategies, zero-downtime migrations, and large-scale infrastructure transitions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to influence and align engineering teams
  • Improve observability and alerting for database fleet monitoring (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)
  • Provision and manage AWS Managed Data Services (RDS Aurora, MSK, ElastiCache) via Kubernetes-native CRDs using Crossplane
  • Adhere to security and compliance requirements in financial data systems
  • Contribute to platform migrations (data center-to-cloud, infrastructure consolidation, cloud-to-cloud)
  • Elevate team standards through code reviews, runbooks, and shared tooling
  • Explore emerging technologies including vector databases or AI-ready data infrastructure

Qualifications

  • 5+ years operating and scaling distributed data platforms (Cassandra, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis) in production
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects independently from scoping to delivery
  • Deep expertise with AWS data services and hybrid/multi-cloud design
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code proficiency (Terraform, Ansible, Crossplane or equivalent)
  • Experience deploying containerized database workloads on Kubernetes
  • Solid Python skills for automation and tooling
  • Deep understanding of database internals, performance tuning, capacity planning, failure analysis
  • Proven experience with HA/DR, zero-downtime migrations, large-scale migrations
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience building observability and alerting frameworks for database fleets (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)
  • Experience provisioning AWS Managed Data Services (RDS Aurora, MSK, ElastiCache) via Crossplane
  • Familiarity with security and compliance in financial data systems
  • Background in platform migrations (data center-to-cloud, etc.)
  • Experience elevating technical standards via code reviews and shared tooling
  • Exposure to vector databases or AI-ready data infrastructure (desired)
