Software Engineer - Full Time
About the role
YC-backed Payna is building regulatory licensing infrastructure for fintech and regulated industries. The Software Engineer will ship end-to-end software across frontend, backend, and infra, focusing on data handling for sensitive licensing data, browser automation, and interactions with state/federal systems.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship product across our core platform, from client-facing tools to internal systems that manage filings across dozens of state regulators
- Design and improve the data layer powering our NMLS automation, including how we structure, store, and secure sensitive client and applicant information
- Work on browser automation and agent-based tooling that interacts directly with state and federal licensing systems
- Help shape technical architecture decisions early, this is a small team, what you build now is what we run on for years
- Move quickly between frontend, backend, and infra as needed, we don't have the luxury of narrow lanes yet
Qualifications
- Strong experience with TypeScript across the stack
- Comfort working with Postgres and designing schemas for complex, evolving data
- Experience shipping production software end to end, not just in a single layer of the stack
- Genuine interest in working on a small team where your code ships fast and gets used immediately
- Comfortable with ambiguity, the regulatory domain is complex and the requirements will not always be fully spec'd out for you

About Payna
AI Licensing Agent for Regulated Industries
Payna is building the AI licensing agent for regulated companies. We automate the filings, renewals, amendments, and regulator follow ups required to get licensed and stay licensed across jurisdictions, so teams no longer have to manage compliance through spreadsheets, email threads, and expensive outside firms. Starting with financial services categories like lending, debt collection, and money transmission, Payna helps companies move faster, stay compliant, and scale without adding compliance headcount linearly.
