About the role
OpenWork is seeking a founding engineer in San Francisco to build an open-source workspace where humans, agents, files, browsers, and tools collaborate in real-time. You’ll work across desktop app, agent runtime, browser automation, MCP/tool integrations, and more to create reliable, scalable collaboration between people and AI agents.
Responsibilities
- Work across the desktop app, agent runtime, browser automation, MCP/tool integrations, local permissions, cloud sync, provider/model orchestration, realtime collaboration, and plugin/skill infrastructure.
- Ship a real product surface or infrastructure improvement within 30 days (e.g., browser automation, MCP/tool reliability, or agent state visibility).
- Own a major part of the product within 60–90 days (e.g., desktop runtime, tool execution, realtime sync, or team workflow sharing).
- Design and implement features that enable shared workspaces, presence, collaborative editors, event streams, permissions, and live sync.
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience
- Strong end-to-end product/build experience
- Proficiency with TypeScript, React, Node.js, Electron (as per stack).
- Ability to move fast, explain design decisions, and own projects.
- Interest in realtime or multiplayer product experiences (shared workspaces, CRDTs, Replicache, Yjs, etc.).
