About the role

The Apple Thermal team seeks a Thermal Engineer to contribute to the Definition and Design of Apple products, ensuring thermal objectives are met from concept to design fruition to optimize user experience. The role requires strong understanding of heat transfer and fluid mechanics, modeling expertise, and effective communication within cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • - Ensure thermal objectives are met or surpassed from concept to design fruition to optimize user experience
  • - Apply fundamental physics of heat and fluid flow to complex design problems
  • - Develop and communicate results through illustrative post processing
  • - Collaborate within cross-functional design teams to convey technically complex material clearly

Qualifications

  • - BS in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on Heat Transfer or Fluid Mechanics
  • - 5+ years deep technical and functional expertise in conduction, convection (passive and active), and radiation
  • - Numerical modeling techniques and concepts (convergence, discretization, and meshing)
  • - Strong communication skills
  • - MS or PhD (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on Heat Transfer or Fluid Mechanics
  • - Understanding of heat sinks, heat pipes and vapor chambers, fans, blowers, and nontraditional air movers, aero-acoustics
  • - CAD and CFD tools (NX, Ansys, StarCCM)
  • - Optimization techniques
  • - Scripting languages (perl, tcl, etc.)
  • - MATLAB, C++, R, JMP or equivalent toolkit for data analysis
  • - Flow and thermal measurement techniques
  • - Manufacturing processes (for heatsink for example)
  • - Creative problem solving for multi-disciplinary design problems
  • - Persistent attention to detail
  • - Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
