Mechanical Engineering Placement (6 Months), New Grad
About the role
Six-month, in-person mechanical engineering placement at Aseon Labs in Redwood City, focused on mechanical design and production implementation of the Aseon Pod. Start immediately, reporting to founders; strong ownership with potential path to full-time offer.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside founding mechanical engineers on the mechanical design and architecture of the Aseon Pod, including structural assemblies, robot mounting systems, gantries, end-effectors, vehicle interfaces and service access features
- Take real design problems from concept through CAD, prototyping and testing, with direct input into decisions that ship
- Collaborate across functions with robotics, electrical and software engineers to integrate subsystems into a single working product
- Build, test, debug and iterate on physical prototypes in our Redwood City workshop
- Support supplier and manufacturing partner coordination on fabrication, tooling and early production runs
- Help identify where Aseon should design custom hardware, modify existing products or integrate off-the-shelf solutions
- Operate with genuine autonomy on defined workstreams under the senior mechanical engineer
Qualifications
- Recent Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Bachelor’s programme
- Prior project or internship experience in a robotics or hardware startup context
- Ability to propose unconventional solutions
- Technical precision with design decisions backed by mechanics
- Command of 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX or equivalent), including some experience with FEA or basic simulation tools
- Fundamentals in mechanisms, tolerancing and electromechanical system design, and familiarity with fabrication methods such as sheet metal, machining, 3D printing or moulding
- Hands-on project experience outside of coursework (e.g., FSAE, Formula Student, robotics teams, personal fabrication projects, research builds)
- Comfort working across mechanical, electrical and robotics boundaries and picking up context quickly
- Ability to work with genuine agency in a small, fast-moving team
- Strong communication skills with founders and engineers
Skills
Benefits
- Ownership and autonomy in six months with potential to convert to full-time
- Direct mentorship from founding team in mechanical engineering, robotics and controls
- Opportunity to contribute to hardware deployed in the field

About Aseon Labs
Robotic pitstops for self-driving cars
Aseon Labs builds robotic pitstops for self-driving cars. Autonomous vehicles can drive themselves, but they still rely on humans and centralized depots for charging, cleaning and servicing multiple times per day. As fleets scale, the operational layer makes up 70% of the cost of the service and is of the largest barrier to uptime, profitability and market expansion. Aseon Pods are robotic micro-depots that can be deployed directly within operating zones, bringing fleet servicing to where demand exists. By eliminating unnecessary depot trips and automating routine operations, Aseon helps autonomous fleet operators increase uptime, reduce reset cost by 50% and unlock scale. Founded by the team behind Pushme, which deployed 5,000 mobility infrastructure locations across 40 cities before its acquisition by TIER-Dott, Aseon is funded and building product in Redwood City for pilot deployment with major autonomous vehicle operators.
