About the role

Staff Compute Engineer lead the design and implementation of the next-generation compute solution for the humanoid robot platform, focusing on real-time performance, sensor bandwidth, and functional safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design of the robot's next-generation compute solution, from high-level system architecture to component-level selection
  • Define and validate compute requirements based on robotics algorithms including motion control, perception, and AI tasks
  • Develop a robust and scalable solution capable of handling high-bandwidth data from a wide array of sensors
  • Design for functional safety from the ground up with redundant systems, fail-safe mechanisms, and diagnostic features to meet or exceed safety standards
  • Collaborate with software, electrical, and systems engineers for seamless integration of compute solution
  • Conduct performance benchmarking and power analysis to optimize compute stack for efficiency and thermal management
  • Design, simulate, implement, and test multi-layer high-speed PCBs for integration of SoMs like NVIDIA Orin
  • Lead high-speed signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis, modeling, and validation
  • Understand compute and processor power requirements, power trees, PMICs, and power sequencing
  • Drive selection and qualification of critical components (SoMs, memory, storage, high-speed interconnects, peripherals)
  • Develop validation and test plans (DVT/PVT), create test fixtures, and perform testing for performance and regulatory compliance (FCC, CE)
  • Stay updated on embedded systems, RTOS, and robotics compute hardware for future designs
  • Own the entire lifecycle of complex compute hardware systems from concept to production release and support
  • Act as technical leader and mentor within the electrical engineering team

Qualifications

  • Proven experience architecting and shipping complex, high-performance compute solutions for robotics or autonomous systems
  • Deep understanding of functional safety principles and standards (e.g., IEC 61508) and safety-critical design experience
  • Expertise in compute platforms including NVIDIA Jetson, Intel, and other high-performance embedded systems
  • Strong knowledge of RTOS, multi-core processing, and communication protocols (Ethernet, CAN)
  • Experience with sensor bandwidth management and high-speed data transfer
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and collaborative engineering approach
  • Experience with humanoid robotics is a significant plus
