About the role

Product team's first data engineer at Sakana AI, building the data infrastructure from the ground up to enable AI-driven autonomous data analysis and exponential growth.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate pipelines that transform product event logs, API usage data, and more into analysis-ready form
  • Design data models for product and business metrics, and build an AI-ready semantic layer
  • Securely and efficiently transfer and store AI-specific data such as LLM inference logs and user interaction data
  • Design and implement anonymized information compliant with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information
  • Lead data quality and observability
  • Design tracking and create dashboards and reporting in collaboration with PdMs and engineers
  • Collaborate within a global team that works in both Japanese and English

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering or analytics engineering in large-scale production environments
  • Strong SQL skills and data modeling experience; experience designing data pipelines that account for business complexity such as regulations, personal information protection laws, and ZDR
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud; building and operating data warehouses such as BigQuery / Databricks / Snowflake
  • Hands-on experience with Airflow, dbt, Terraform, and Docker
  • Understanding of the fundamental principles of LLMs and the ability to actively incorporate the latest AI research
  • Ability to communicate in English
