About the role

Backend-focused role building scalable data-intensive services and enterprise data pipelines to power agentic AI for supply chains and procurement in a hybrid London-based environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design & build scalable, performant backend services and data pipelines - written in Python and deployed with Docker & Kubernetes.
  • Integrate with enterprise ecosystems - SAP and Oracle ERP, GraphQL/REST APIs, SFTP feeds, and Kafka/Pulsar event buses.
  • Wrangle large, heterogeneous data sets - model, transform, and index multi-modal, multi-terabyte enterprise datasets for advanced workloads.
  • Develop enterprise-level next generation AI systems with Magentic’s AI specialists.
  • Ship complete customer features - architecture, code, CI/CD, infra-as-code (Terraform), rollout, and user training.
  • Collaborate directly with executives & operators - white-boarding, turning ambiguous requirements into concrete specs, weekly demos, fast iteration.
  • Champion observability & reliability - instrument services with OpenTelemetry, define SLIs/SLOs, automate incident response.
  • Contribute across the stack - build lightweight front-ends when needed and collaborate with ML engineers on inference/evaluation pipelines.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional software-engineering experience.
  • Fluent in Python; comfortable in TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Experience building and operating data-intensive systems (batch & streaming) in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Knowledge of relational, columnar, and KV/graph databases and appropriate usage scenarios.
  • Experience with real-world enterprise stacks - authentication, SSO, legacy ERPs, message queues, ETL tools.
  • Ability to translate loosely defined problems into production-ready solutions quickly.
  • Strong communication skills with engineers and business stakeholders; comfortable on customer calls to debug APIs.
  • Thrives in an early-stage, high-ownership environment.
