About the role

Research Scientists (all seniority levels) to join Spotify's Artist-First AI Music Lab, pioneering generative audio technologies for music to enhance artist-fan experiences. Focus areas include vocal synthesis, post-training techniques, and audio editing within a collaborative, product-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct groundbreaking research in generative audio using diffusion or flow matching models, focusing on Vocal Synthesis, Post-Training, and Editing.
  • Run large-scale experiments with access to Spotify's infrastructure and a large user base.
  • Create practical applications that harness generative technologies to push listening experiences forward.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (scientists, engineers, product managers, designers, user researchers, analysts) to craft innovative solutions.
  • Have a direct impact on Spotify's products, tools, and services, influencing the entire organization.
  • Engage with the broader research community by publishing findings, delivering talks, and attending top conferences.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field (industry experience helpful).
  • Experience in generative modeling, machine learning, music information retrieval, speech processing, audio processing, signal processing, probabilistic modeling, computer vision, or related areas.
  • Deep expertise in at least one focus area (vocal/speech synthesis, post-training alignment techniques such as PPO, GRPO, DPO, or audio-to-audio generation and text-guided music editing).
  • Publications at leading conferences (ICASSP, ISMIR, INTERSPEECH, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI, NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, or related venues).
  • Strong coding skills in Python, PyTorch, and NumPy.
  • Creative problem-solving mindset; passion for building products that add value to millions.
