About the role

Research engineer role focused on multilingual ML/NLP, MT and LLM technologies, with responsibilities spanning novel modeling approaches, evaluation, and deployment of large-scale translation and language model systems within Apple’s ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate novel modeling and learning approaches for multilingual MT and LLMs.
  • Evaluate MT/LLM systems and contribute to core modeling efforts.
  • Collaborate with diverse language technologies and contribute to the advancement of LLM and MT technology for real-world applications (Translate app, Safari translation, system-wide translation).
  • Design, experiment, and implement solutions to research problems; contribute to production-scale AI/ML systems.
  • Communicate results effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Possibly lead or contribute to impactful research in LLM/MT or related disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Experience in machine learning and NLP including model training, inference, LLMs, neural machine translation, language modeling, sequence-to-sequence models.
  • Experience developing AI/ML systems at scale in production or high-impact research environments.
  • Knowledge of deep learning toolkits (JAX, PyTorch or TensorFlow).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, and Bash scripting.
  • Ability to design and deploy real-world, large-scale, user-facing MT or LLM systems.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
