About the role

System Electrical Engineer focused on integrating electrical subsystems for MacBook Air, owning design, validation, and production support of constrained multilayer PCBs and power/signal integrity across cross-functional teams to balance performance, battery life, thermals, reliability, and manufacturability.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with system architects to translate product requirements into electrical subsystem designs
  • Define, design, simulate, test and validate electrical subsystems
  • Develop schematics and implement constrained multilayer PCBs
  • Collaborate with PCB designers to deliver robust implementations
  • Present design proposals and tradeoffs to cross-functional partners and leadership
  • Lead system bring-up, debugging hardware issues, and system validation
  • Own subsystem through mass production; support factory builds and line-down issue resolution
  • Root-cause manufacturing and yield excursions; implement design improvements to enhance quality and production efficiency
  • Drive technical decisions and alignment through design reviews
  • Travel internationally as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of industry experience designing consumer electronics and/or embedded systems with cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong fundamentals in analog/digital circuit design, signal integrity, and power integrity
  • Experience in circuit design across power, digital, analog, high-speed interfaces, programmable logic, and/or wireless systems
  • Strong PCB layout expertise for constrained multilayer designs, HDI, fine-pitch BGAs, high-speed interfaces, power delivery networks, flex circuits, and cable assemblies; proficiency with Allegro or equivalent
  • Experience with electrical validation and debugging using high-speed oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, BERTs, and protocol analyzers
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and first-to-market product development
  • Ability to understand and debug complex problems across system to transistor level
  • Solid understanding of interfaces (I2C, SPI, JTAG, I2S) and high-speed interfaces (USB, PCIe, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, DDR)
  • Experience with schematic capture and constraint-driven PCB design using Cadence Allegro/OrCAD or equivalent EDA tools
  • Experience with numerical modeling, simulation, and analysis tools (SPICE, 2D/3D field solvers, power/signal integrity)
  • Experience with data analysis, visualization, and scripting for validation and workflows
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Curious, creative, collaborative, and driven to solve challenging engineering problems while continuously learning
