About the role

Staff Data Scientist leading Quince's foundational supply chain planning science capability, including demand forecasting, inventory placement, vendor performance modeling, and raw material signal generation. Responsible for end-to-end methodology, production models, and iterative improvement; mentorship of junior scientists; partnership with planning operators and engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Own the science workstreams end-to-end: forecasting tournament implementation, inventory placement optimization, vendor performance system, raw material signal pipeline across methodology, production model, and iteration loop
  • Hold the methodological standard for your area: model selection criteria, defensible evaluation, data sparsity/noise handling
  • Partner with Planning Tools engineering on platform needs and production constraints
  • Bring depth across statistical, ML, and AI-driven methods and evaluate them within a tournament framework
  • Set experimentation discipline standards: clean splits, honest backtests, willingness to reject hypotheses
  • Drive AI-native science workflow (LLM-aided EDA, agentic feature discovery, AI-augmented experiment design) with rigor
  • Mentor scientists within the team and raise the methodological floor through guidance and code review
  • Partner with planning operators to translate operational reality into modeling problems and outputs into actionable decisions
  • Educate operators on model capabilities and limitations, and push back on mis-specified signals or overfitting

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of applied data science or operations research experience, with deep expertise in one or two domains relevant to supply chain planning
  • Demonstrated ownership of modelling workstreams end-to-end (problem framing through production deployment, iteration, and measurable impact)
  • Breadth across forecasting, OR (classical, ML, AI-driven approaches) with informed opinions on appropriate methods
  • Engineering fluency to own end-to-end work: feature pipelines, experiments, model serving
  • AI-native science practice with concrete examples of AI tooling enhancing scientific work and maintaining standards
  • Track record of mentorship of scientists and ability to earn trust with operators
