About the role
Role focused on building testing and quality control infrastructure for Field AI’s robotics hardware, ensuring reliability and readiness for field deployment across multiple embodiments (quadrupeds, humanoids, wheeled platforms).
Responsibilities
- Test & Validate System Design: Set up testing infrastructure, work with internal facilities and third-party labs and certification bodies.
- Mechanical Testing: Thermal/shock/vibration testing, HALT/HASS, IP54/IP65, destructive/non-destructive evaluation (X-ray, CT).
- Electrical Testing: Overcurrent/overvoltage testing, EMI/EMC, manage FCC and CE certification with external labs.
- Sensor Validation: Test sensor performance (LiDAR, depth cameras, IMU, GPS) across environments; validate calibration procedures in-lab and in-field.
- Safety & Compliance: Support ISO 26262, SIL, ISO 9001, MIL-STD-810 compliance via third-party bodies and track evolving requirements.
- Incoming & Outbound Quality: Develop IQC and OQC, design sampling/AQL plans, test sample units.
- Process & Infrastructure: Build test processes, maintain procedures, logs, calibration traceability; evaluate production readiness.
- Build & Supply Chain: Support scaling, work with vendors and contract manufacturers on qualification and testing.
- Fleet Health Monitoring: Monitor fleet health and uptime; conduct fault and performance testing across hardware and track calibration status.
- Failure & Reliability Tracking: Track MTBF/MTTR and reliability metrics across development and global deployments.
- Fleet Maintenance & Retrofits: Collaborate with technicians on test floor and in-field; facilitate retrofits and root-cause analysis.
Qualifications
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
- Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on hardware testing, quality, or reliability engineering.
- Experience across mechanical and electrical test domains including environmental and reliability testing (thermal, vibration, HALT, IP54/IP65).
- Experience with IQC, OQC, and sampling/AQL in ISO 9001-aligned environments.
- Cross-functional experience with electrical, mechanical, embedded, and sensor systems across multiple embodiments (wheeled, quadruped, humanoid).
- Familiarity with robotics interfaces (USB, Ethernet, CAN, I2C, GMSL).
- Proficient debugging hardware/software tools (oscilloscopes, logs, power monitors, EMI/FCC analyzers).
- Systems thinking to diagnose readiness across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and software layers.
