About the role

Senior Software Engineering Manager at Apple leading multiple software and systems engineering teams to design, build, and operate intelligent manufacturing platforms, agentic workflows, data infrastructure, and AI-powered applications for global manufacturing operations. Establishes technical strategy, roadmaps, and cohesive platform architecture across distributed systems integrating ERP/MES/PLM, AI models, factory-edge systems, and human decision-making. Focuses on scalable, secure, and reliable production capabilities with emphasis on autonomy, safety, and governance of agentic AI on the factory floor.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple software engineering teams responsible for manufacturing platforms, enterprise integrations, agentic workflows, AI applications and factory-edge systems
  • Establish a unified technical vision, platform strategy and multi-year engineering roadmap across the organization
  • Define charters, ownership boundaries, interfaces and operating mechanisms across teams to create a cohesive platform
  • Develop engineering managers, technical leads and senior individual contributors to scale the organization
  • Lead architecture and development of software platforms supporting manufacturing planning, execution, quality, automation and operational decision-making
  • Build agentic workflows to retrieve/reason over data, execute multi-step processes, validate outcomes and involve human operators
  • Develop foundations for AI agents: orchestration, tool-calling, memory, context-management, evaluation, observability and governance
  • Establish architectures connecting AI systems with ERP, MES, PLM, quality systems, supply-chain platforms, equipment telemetry and engineering data
  • Partner with ML teams to productionize models for CV, anomaly detection, forecasting, optimization, process intelligence and knowledge retrieval
  • Enable physical/embodied AI on factory floor: vision, robotics, inspection, equipment interaction and closed-loop workflows
  • Design systems bridging cloud, on-premises, edge and factory environments with latency, availability, security, fault tolerance and data governance
  • Provide architectural guidance to transition proofs-of-concept into production
  • Develop reusable platform services, APIs, developer frameworks and integration patterns
  • Establish evaluation/validation frameworks for agentic/AI systems: task success, tool-use accuracy, hallucination containment, safety and business impact
  • Drive engineering excellence: design principles, code quality, testing, observability, incident management, operational readiness and service ownership
  • Establish engineering processes, standards, reviews and tooling across the organization
  • Manage dependencies and alignment across teams; resolve architectural/ownership conflicts
  • Make investments and trade-offs across model capability, deterministic software, latency, cost, scalability, reliability, and complexity
  • Translate manufacturing priorities into clearly defined engineering programs
  • Communicate strategy, direction, program health, risks and investments to senior leadership
  • Foster inclusive, accountable, innovative engineering culture with high execution bar
  • Own planning, hiring strategy, talent development, succession planning and growth of engineers and managers

Qualifications

  • 18+ years of software engineering experience with leadership of multiple engineering teams
  • Proven track record of managing managers, tech leads, senior ICs, or multiple workstreams in a complex software organization
  • Experience defining organizational strategy, charters, ownership models, roadmaps and execution mechanisms across teams
  • Strong hands-on technical foundation; ability to contribute in architecture reviews and complex escalations
  • Experience building highly available distributed systems, microservices, data platforms, workflows, or enterprise integration platforms
  • Experience with relational/non-relational databases, event streams, caching, object stores, APIs, and asynchronous processing
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, data structures, algorithms, concurrency, distributed computing, production reliability
  • Experience designing AI/ML platforms or intelligent automation
  • Understanding of agentic-system concepts: orchestration, tool use, retrieval, planning, state management, human-in-the-loop, evaluations, observability
  • Ability to determine when probabilistic AI is appropriate vs deterministic software/validation
  • Experience integrating software with complex enterprise systems and workflows
  • Ability to translate ambiguous manufacturing problems into scalable software architectures and programs
  • Strong judgment balancing investments across teams; handling risk, debt, and schedules
  • Excellent written/spoken communication; ability to explain complex issues in business terms
  • Ability to influence across software, ML, manufacturing engineering, operations, quality, automation, robotics and program management
  • Strong leadership, prioritization, accountability, blockers resolution and measurable outcomes
  • Proven ability to hire, mentor, retain and develop engineers, tech leads and managers
  • Education: Bachelors or Masters in CS/Software Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Robotics or related field, or equivalent practical experience
