About the role

Hardware Engineer sought to lead development of high-performance compact camera modules within Apple’s Camera Hardware Engineering group. Focus on designing camera module structures, packaging, and components, coordinating with manufacturing partners, and guiding mechanical evaluation and documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design camera module structures and packaging in CAD.
  • Design injection molded, sheet metal, PCB, and other component parts.
  • Author detailed 2D manufacturing and inspection drawings.
  • Perform rigorous tolerance analysis of module designs and component parts.
  • Work with component part and camera manufacturing partners on design manufacturability and resolution of mechanical issues.
  • Author clear documentation on mechanical inspection and test requirements.
  • Direct FEA engineers on evaluation of camera designs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Optical Science, Physics, or related field
  • Mechanical design using CAD 3D molding and drafting package
  • Master's or PhD degree and 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Structural and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience
  • Experience with NX
  • Tolerance analysis experience of high complexity and precision mechanical designs with excellent understanding of GD&T
  • Experience designing for plastic injection molding and metal stamping for mass production
  • Experience with various materials (research, selection, testing, process ability)
  • PCB design experience
  • Magnetic simulation and voice coil motor (VCM) for camera
