About the role

Product Manager responsible for the vision, strategy, and roadmap of DefenseOS, a navy warship operating system derived from Applied Intuition's VehicleOS, with a zonal architecture and centralized compute. IC role partnering with engineering, design, and operations to translate naval needs into a prioritized product plan and drive adoption in defense contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for DefenseOS — adapting Applied's commercial VehicleOS for navy warships.
  • Lead customer and user discovery with Navy program offices, operators, and crews to translate operational needs into a prioritized roadmap.
  • Define the zonal architecture strategy and integration with defense-unique systems; decide what to bridge and sequencing of work.
  • Write clear requirements, define success metrics, and perform prioritization and scope trade-offs.
  • Partner with engineering, hardware/integration, and operations to sequence delivery across simulation, integration lab, and live-platform testing on unmanned surface vessels and traditional surface combatants.
  • Own trade-offs between speed, quality, and scope under acquisition/field constraints.
  • Work with design to shape operator interfaces and workflows for crews.
  • Partner with defense customers and shipbuilders/integrators as a design-informed product lead.
  • Communicate strategy, status, risk, and trade-offs to senior leadership and external stakeholders; provide input to program and business decisions.
  • Build feedback loops from usage signals, customer input, and program data to shape the roadmap over time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Computer Science, Engineering, or related) or equivalent experience; advanced degree or deep technical background a plus.
  • 8+ years of product management experience shipping complex technical products, ideally platforms spanning hardware and software, real-time/embedded, or systems-of-systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a product end to end as an individual contributor.
  • Thrives as an IC with influence over cross-functional outcomes, not direct reports.
  • Strong technical literacy to engage with engineers on architecture trade-offs and integration considerations.
  • Experience defining product strategy for integrating with legacy, proprietary, or closed third-party systems lacking modern interfaces.
  • Skilled at customer and user discovery; translating ambiguous problems into clear requirements.
  • Comfort in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with ability to defend trade-offs between speed, quality, and scope.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication to senior leadership.
  • US citizenship and eligible for active US Top Secret security clearance on onboarding.
