About the role

Senior individual contributor responsible for defining and guiding the multi-year data platform architecture and streaming strategy at Hims & Hers, spanning ingestion, streaming, orchestration, transformation, and serving to support Analytics Engineering, Data Science, and Software Engineering across telehealth, prescriptions, and wellness products.

Responsibilities

  • The multi-year platform architecture. Ingestion, streaming, orchestration, transformation, and serving as one system rather than five. You decide what we build, what we buy, what we deprecate, and in what order.
  • The streaming bet. Determine whether Kafka to Flink to BigQuery remains an analytics pipeline or becomes production infrastructure, and the associated operational, financial, and organizational commitments.
  • The contracts between organizations. Define interfaces, service boundaries, and data contracts governing consumption and writing into the platform.
  • What "trustworthy data" means here, including quality and freshness guarantees, tiering, and accountability model when guarantees are missed.
  • The economics of the platform. Storage and compute strategy, reservation model, orchestration footprint, and an accountability framework for consumption.
  • The self service strategy. Enable Analytics Engineering and Data Science to move without waiting on DPE while maintaining guardrails for production.
  • The standards the discipline runs on. Testing, CI/CD, observability, schema governance, and infrastructure as code adopted beyond direct reports.
  • Architecture Review. Chair it and be the decision-maker of record for cross-team, multi-system, and cost-impacting changes.
  • The seams between data and everything else. readiness for ML/DS, HIPAA/PHI compliance posture, and infrastructure hardening with DevOps.
  • The written record. ADRs, design docs, and RFCs as reference for teams.
  • The technical ceiling of the org. Mentorship, design reviews, and hands-on pairing to elevate others.
  • Hands-on ownership. Write and review production code and participate in platform-level P1s.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years building and owning data platform architecture, with a track record of durable decisions across multiple companies or platform generations
  • Evidence of defining architectural authority and obtaining adoption through credibility rather than reporting lines
  • Deep GCP and BigQuery expertise, plus AWS operational fluency (Airflow on EKS); multicloud experience
  • Modern data stack at scale: governing dbt, Airflow/Astronomer, Kafka/Confluent, Databricks/Spark, Fivetran, and reverse ETL platforms
  • Production experience with event streaming at scale (schema registry, data contracts, consumer lag management, delivery semantics)
  • Data governance and compliance in regulated environments (HIPAA/PHI, GDPR)
  • Terraform or equivalent; infrastructure changes as software changes
  • Strong Python and SQL; production-grade pipeline code and code reviews
  • Ability to craft design docs that drive alignment across organizations
