About the role

Site Reliability Engineer in Apple’s Cloud Service Infrastructure team in Dublin, helping scale and operate infrastructure for hyperscaling Apple Silicon datacenter services and Private Cloud Compute. Focus on reliability, observability, automation, and reducing toil across large-scale distributed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to alerts and incidents to maintain platform reliability
  • Design, explain, and debug complex distributed systems
  • Build automation and reliability tools to scale systems
  • Improve reuse, efficiency, and simplicity of SaaS and infrastructure
  • Own and influence direction of core platform for Apple internet services
  • Operate critical, large-scale distributed systems spanning hardware, OS, and software
  • Learn from incidents to improve future performance and reliability
  • Teach and learn as the service grows

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in at least one of Go, Rust, Python, or Swift
  • Backend internet services software development experience
  • Knowledge of software development life-cycle including CI, testing, TDD, and agile methodologies
  • Understanding of foundational internet infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, virtualization, monitoring)
  • Experience operating large-scale distributed systems
  • Understanding of SRE principles (observability, alerting, error budgets, fault analysis)
  • Experience with large scale server provisioning and maintenance (OpenStack Ironic, Metal3, MAAS, xCat, Netbox, Tinkerbell)
  • Experience with Kubernetes ecosystem including operator framework, controllers, and CRDs
  • Hardware bootstrap and security (PXE, BIOS, TPM, secure boot, trusted computing)
  • Structured or unstructured storage and caching
  • Automation of operations via services and tools
  • Configuration management / fleet orchestration (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or equivalents)
  • Experience with distributed systems elements (load-balancing, service discovery, leader election, flow control)
