About the role

Position within Apple’s Digital Design Engineering group focusing on designing state-of-the-art ASICs with a strong emphasis on custom digital layout in deep SubMicron CMOS technologies. You will collaborate across integration, CAD, circuit and technology engineering to deliver PDV clean layouts and robust physical design.

Responsibilities

  • Designing complex custom layout for digital circuits in deep SubMicron CMOS technologies.
  • Reviewing and analyzing floorplans and complex circuits with circuit designers.
  • Running a complete set of layout design verification tools (e.g., CALIBRE DRC/LVS/ERC) on megacells.
  • Working with the circuit design team to plan, schedule work and negotiate layout tradeoffs as needed.
  • Interpreting LVS, DRC and ERC reports to optimize layouts.
  • Exceeding engineering specifications and expectations.
  • Using advanced CAD tools and mask design knowledge for layout corrections and robust physical design representations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in custom layout design of deep SubMicron CMOS circuits.
  • High level proficiency in layout floorplanning, standard cell planning and hierarchical layout assembly.
  • Strong understanding of RC delay, electromigration, self-heating, and cross capacitance.
  • Ability to recognize and address failure-prone layout structures and collaborate with designers on optimal approaches.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with multi-functional teams.
  • Strong experience interpreting CALIBRE DRC, ERC, LVS reports.
  • Knowledge of Mentor Graphics or Cadence layout tools.
