About the role

Design for Manufacturability Engineer focusing on developing manufacturing processes and stations for PCBA/SMA and related manufacturing, ensuring quality, leading contract manufacturers, and supporting product builds from prototype to mass production with an emphasis on data-driven optimization using Python and AI/ML.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of manufacturing processes and stations (SMA, HotBar, etc.).
  • Ensure top-tier quality and solve complex problems creatively.
  • Manage contract manufacturers (CMs) to support development builds and high-volume production.
  • Collaborate with Cupertino Engineering to validate manufacturability and recommend design changes for yield, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop innovative manufacturing processes and stations.
  • Provide expert guidance to CM engineers.
  • Support product builds through Proto, EVT, DVT, PVT and mass production ramps.
  • Plan, develop, and implement procedures for PCBA, SIP, module manufacturing processes and quality control at CM sites.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define requirements and performance metrics for new processes.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to transition projects to production or during site transfers.
  • Act as primary project leader on complex manufacturing/engineering projects.
  • Utilize Python programming for data analysis, AI/ML-enabled optimization, model deployment, and automated systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or closely related field with relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in SMT or related fields (e.g., packaging assembly).
  • Proficient in Python programming with project experience in scripting, data processing, and automation tools.
  • Familiar with mainstream Python AI/data libraries and capable of data analysis and simple model construction.
  • Solid understanding of basic AI/ML concepts (supervised/unsupervised learning, data training logic, model evaluation indicators, application scenarios).
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Master’s degree or above in EE/ME/Manufacturing Engineering/Materials Science; additional automation/data science/mechanical design expertise is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills, collaborative mindset across functions.
  • Demonstrated leadership as project leader on complex initiatives.
  • Strong quality mindset with experience in factory quality control systems (IQC, IPQC, SQE, QA/QE).
  • Proficiency with DFM software/tools (e.g., Siemens/Mentor Graphics Valor NPI).
  • Proactive attitude with ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines.
