About the role

Backend software engineer for Apple Video Services building and operating scalable, resilient services powering the Apple TV app and Apple TV+ content experiences. Collaborate on onboarding, browse/discovery, playback, and related services with focus on reliability, observability, and uptime across global users.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate backend services for the Apple TV app and Apple TV+ experience.
  • Contribute to web-scale systems with emphasis on resiliency and observability to ensure reliability and uptime.
  • Support onboarding of new content and experiences onto the platform, including browse and discovery features.
  • Propose, design, and implement solutions, taking ownership of critical components of the stack.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested, maintainable code and explore new technologies to solve problems.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of industry experience building systems and delivering internet services at scale
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with Java and runtime configurations
  • Experience working in Linux or Unix environments, including performance tuning for resources such as memory and disk
  • Basic understanding of Kubernetes
  • Experience building and working with systems such as containers, message queues (e.g. Kafka), and server-side technologies (e.g. Jetty)
  • Experience with NoSQL, relational, or big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, MongoDB/CouchDB, Spark)
  • Deeper understanding of modern Java concepts, including virtual threads
  • Infrastructure knowledge spanning networks, CDNs, and load balancers
  • Experience with application/software design and API development using technologies such as Java, JavaScript, and HTML5
  • Experience with Java, JVM technologies, and runtime configurations
  • In-depth knowledge of large-scale distributed systems
  • A strong inclination to deep dive into complex issues, combined with persistence and grit
