About the role

Chief of Staff role at Goodfire, an AI interpretability research lab in San Francisco, aimed at increasing leadership effectiveness through high-volume execution, coordination, and strategic support across recruiting, events, fundraising, planning, and internal/external communications.

Responsibilities

  • High volumes of unglamorous work (e.g., follow-ups, drafting internal/external communications, recruiting coordination, logistics)
  • Driving projects that don’t fit neatly elsewhere
  • Wearing many hats including recruiting, hosting events, supporting fundraising, planning offsites, new customer outreach, and goals planning
  • Demonstrating leadership, communication, judgment, and discretion
  • Understanding AI and mechanistic interpretability at a technical level to engage in AI/product discussions and build intuition over time
  • Representing the CEO and the company internally and externally

Qualifications

  • Jack of all trades
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication; able to produce crisp, executive-ready materials
  • Strong work ethic and high output
  • Strong leadership and people management experience
  • Learns fast
  • Preferred: Former founder or exec at high performing VC-backed startup (Series A or later)
  • Preferred: Experience in fast-paced, early-stage startup environment
  • Preferred: Experience with interpretability techniques and tooling for AI models
  • Preferred: Strong understanding of AI and mechanistic interpretability
