About the role

Design for Manufacturability (DFM) Engineer responsible for leading manufacturing process development, SPA/ stations (SMA, HotBar, etc.), quality assurance, and management of contract manufacturers to support product development builds and mass production. Collaborates with Cupertino Engineering to validate designs for manufacturability, develops manufacturing processes, supports data-driven optimization using Python and AI/ML, and leads projects from engineering to mass production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of manufacturing processes and stations (SMA, HotBar, etc.).
  • Ensure top-tier quality and solve complex problems creatively.
  • Manage contract manufacturers to support development builds and high-volume mass production.
  • Collaborate with Cupertino Engineering to validate product designs for manufacturability and propose design changes for quality, yield, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop innovative manufacturing processes and stations.
  • Provide expert guidance to CM engineers.
  • Support product builds through Proto, EVT, DVT, PVT and mass production ramps.
  • Plan, develop, and implement rigorous procedures for PCBA, SIP, module manufacturing processes and quality control at CM sites.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define requirements and performance metrics for new processes.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to transition projects from engineering to mass production and site-to-site transfers.
  • Act as primary project leader on complex manufacturing and engineering projects.
  • Utilize Python programming for data analysis, AI/ML model development, automation, and system optimization.
  • Develop Python-based scripts and apps, leverage AI/ML for data analysis and process optimization.
  • Use Python libraries to clean, process, and visualize data; identify anomalies and provide optimization recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or related field with relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) or related fields (e.g., packaging assembly).
  • Proficient in Python programming with project experience in scripting, data processing, and automation tool building.
  • Familiar with mainstream Python AI/data libraries for data analysis and basic model construction.
  • Solid understanding of AI/ML concepts (supervised/unsupervised learning, data training logic, model evaluation, application scenarios).
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Master’s degree or higher in EE/ME/Manufacturing Engineering/Materials Science or related fields is a plus.
  • Additional expertise in automation, data science, or mechanical design is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills and collaborative mindset across functions.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities for project leadership on complex initiatives.
  • Strong quality mindset with experience in factory quality control systems (IQC, IPQC, SQE, QA/QE).
  • Proficiency with DFM analysis tools (e.g., Siemens/Mentor Graphics Valor NPI).
  • Proactive, capable of performing under pressure and tight deadlines.
