About the role

Senior Software Engineer with distributed systems and orchestration experience to build and run large-scale, highly resilient services enabling satellite-based connectivity for iPhone and Apple Watch, including end-to-end infrastructure, provisioning, monitoring, deployment, and software platforms in a no-ops culture.

Responsibilities

  • - Build and run an Apple service enabling platform used by millions of customers
  • - Develop and operate infrastructure powering critical services with emphasis on build
  • - Contribute to distributed systems architecture and cloud infrastructure as code
  • - Design and implement end-to-end infrastructure from the beginning within a no-ops team
  • - Work on provisioning, monitoring, deployment, and software platforms
  • - Scale Apple’s services for customers around the world

Qualifications

  • - 5+ years Software engineering or DevOps experience
  • - Proficient in at least one of these languages: Python, Go, Rust, C++
  • - Strong experience with large-scale distributed systems (replication, high availability, data processing/streaming)
  • - Strong experience with Linux/UNIX administration, configuration, and monitoring
  • - Experience with batch or realtime processing systems
  • - Experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure): identity & credential management, pub/sub, message queuing
  • - Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Puppet, Flux, Ansible, etc)
  • - Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • - Experience with zero-downtime deployments, job scheduling systems, event-based messaging systems
  • - Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies
  • - Strong operational and troubleshooting skills.
  • - Deep understanding of distributed systems principles (consistency, fault tolerance, scalability)
  • - Familiarity with consensus algorithms (Raft, Paxos, Zab, etc)
  • - Experience building/operating multi-clustered and highly-available services
  • - Experience with Temporal/Cadence/Windmill or other durable execution platforms
  • - Understanding of zero-trust application architecture
  • - Experience building data pipelines (Kafka, Spark, Flink, Beam, etc)
  • - Kubernetes experience (cluster management and application deployment/configuration)
  • - Experience with IoT/Edge compute and infrastructure
  • - Interest/experience in RF, Cellular, Satellite communications (Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, LTE/5G)
  • - Experience with modern web-scale services (servers, VIPs, load balancers, proxies)
  • - Experience with monitoring/metrics platforms (Splunk, Prometheus)
  • - Engineering or technical BS is a plus but not required
