About the role

Senior leadership role responsible for strategy, roadmap, and architectural direction for a server platform engineering team delivering highly scalable distributed systems in support of Apple’s energy and sustainability mission. Focus on building a high-performing, AI-enabled team with strong emphasis on reliability, security, compliance, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management for the team, to build and retain a world-class engineering team
  • Define and communicate team strategy, technical roadmap, and durable architecture decisions aligned to Apple's energy and sustainability mission
  • Maintain technical credibility across your team's systems — engage deeply in architecture reviews and critical technical decisions, setting the technical bar without requiring day-to-day involvement in code review
  • Champion a platform mindset, building shared services and infrastructure that other Apple teams adopt and rely on
  • Drive your team's adoption and sustained fluency with agentic and generative AI tooling to accelerate engineering velocity
  • Actively understand and shape how engineers across the organization work with AI, serving as a primary driver of AI-enabled workflows across your team and the broader engineering organization
  • Partner cross-functionally with product, security, privacy, and compliance stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet the highest standards
  • Operate and continuously improve mission-critical production distributed systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security
  • Foster a team culture grounded in technical excellence, psychological safety, continuous improvement, and shared accountability

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of building, leading, and growing high-performing software engineering teams in control of their production environment
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in direct people management responsibility, with experience leading a team of comparable size (10+ engineers) and accountability for team-wide technical and people outcomes
  • Deep expertise in designing and operating mission-critical, highly scalable distributed systems at production scale
  • Demonstrated ability to remain technically credible across your team's systems — engaging in architecture reviews and technical decisions at a level of depth that earns the trust of senior engineers, without requiring hands-on code review
  • Experience with hiring pipelines, performance management, career development frameworks, and building inclusive team culture
  • Strong background in security, compliance, and governance practices relevant to enterprise-scale platform services
  • Track record of influencing cross-functional partners and driving alignment across engineering, product, and operations organizations
  • Proficiency with platform-oriented engineering — designing services and infrastructure that other teams adopt as foundational building blocks
  • BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI frameworks, generative AI tooling, or LLM-integrated developer workflows in a production or near-production context
  • Familiarity with energy, sustainability, or carbon accounting domains — including clean energy procurement, emissions tracking, or supply chain transparency systems
  • Skilled in driving organizational AI fluency — rolling out AI-assisted development practices, evaluating tooling, and sustaining adoption over time
  • Experience operating infrastructure in regulated environments with strict data privacy and compliance requirements
  • Background in building internal developer platforms or shared services adopted broadly across a large engineering organization
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous, high-stakes business goals into concrete technical strategy and executable roadmaps
