About the role

Senior Labor & HR Operations Specialist role at Sakana AI, focusing on building and improving labor administration, payroll, social insurance, and related processes in a fast-growing Tokyo-based startup with multilingual collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Run and verify payroll, bonus calculations, and year-end tax adjustment (nenmatsu chosei).
  • Handle social and labor insurance procedures (onboarding/offboarding, standard remuneration, monthly revisions, benefit claims, etc.).
  • Operate attendance management and review working hours, leave, and overtime.
  • Maintain labor-related procedures and documents for joiners and leavers (employment contracts, work-related documents).
  • Support the application of work rules and internal policies, and propose updates in line with legal changes.
  • Ensure the discretionary work system and the highly professional work system are administered correctly.
  • Improve and streamline processes by introducing and refining labor-related systems.
  • Respond to employee questions on labor and social insurance matters.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external specialists (e.g., labor and social security attorneys).

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on labor operations experience at a company or a labor & social security attorney’s office.
  • Practical experience with payroll and social/labor insurance procedures.
  • Hands-on experience running labor–management committees and the related administration (Article 36 agreements, the discretionary work system, the highly professional work system).
  • Working knowledge of Japanese labor law and related regulations.
  • Fluent Japanese communication skills.
