About the role

Senior Frontend Engineer focused on design systems and commerce for ALSO’s storefront, shaping customer experience from campaign pages to product pages, with ownership of design system extension, Shopify-based architecture, and cross-functional collaboration with creative and UX partners.

Responsibilities

  • Build more pages, faster. Own the frontend of our storefront, product detail, collection and category pages, gear and merchandise shop, and seasonal landing pages.
  • Extend and steward our design system. Grow the component library, tokens, and page-composition patterns.
  • Build for self-serve. Architect Shopify theme sections, blocks, metafields, and metaobjects for non-engineer page composition.
  • Partner directly with creative and UX. Translate concepts into shipped pages, driving decisions and alternatives.
  • Own merchandising surfaces. Manage category/collection pages, faceted filtering, sort, variant/colorway logic, swatch/color contribution, cross-sell/bundle modules, and inventory-aware states.
  • Ship seasonal and concurrent campaigns with scheduling and staged launches.
  • Hold the quality bar high (Core Web Vitals, accessibility, responsive behavior, cross-browser correctness, analytics).
  • Work with backend engineering to define data/API contracts and integrate with commerce/catalog/account systems.

Qualifications

  • Strong Shopify experience (Liquid, Online Store 2.0 theme architecture: sections, blocks, metafields, metaobjects), Storefront/Admin GraphQL APIs, and theme development tooling.
  • Experience building for multi-product-line brands and catalogs (hard goods, apparel, accessories, parts, merch).
  • Proven track record with design systems: component library and token system; translating Figma to durable code.
  • Expert frontend: JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS architecture, modern framework (React or equivalent), build tooling, progressive enhancement.
  • Deep understanding of category/collection page depth, faceted navigation, sort defaults, pagination vs infinite scroll, color/variant presentation.
  • Performance and accessibility defaults (Core Web Vitals, image/font strategy, WCAG 2.1 AA).
  • Ability to work autonomously with ambiguous creative direction and ship results with minimal hand-holding.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication with designers and backend engineers.
  • 6+ years frontend engineering experience, 3+ years on commerce storefronts.
