About the role

Role focused on development, implementation, and optimization of cosmetic and functional coating processes (PVD/CVD) for Apple enclosure designs. Collaborates with Product Design Engineering and Industrial Design to assess manufacturability, optimize production processes, and lead manufacturing quality initiatives across global sites.

Responsibilities

  • Participate on a team tasked with developing and implementing next-generation PVD processes for cosmetic and protective finishes, focusing on PVD coatings and equipment hardware for Apple’s enclosure designs.
  • Domain Integration & PVD Process: Understand relationship between equipment automation parameters, PVD chamber hardware, and the PVD process and materials chemistry.
  • Failure Analysis (FA) & Yield Improvement: Troubleshoot production problems, correlate FA findings with process data, and develop closed-loop controls to prevent issues.
  • Work with cross-functional operations teams and contract manufacturers to evaluate implementation risk, create technical requirements/qualification packages, assess capabilities of PVD process integrators, and provide DFM feedback.
  • Coordinate activities with global counterparts to push process capability and present detailed analyses to cross-functional teams and decision-makers.
  • Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and product production ramp, coordinating Asia and US teams and vendors.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Engineering (Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent)
  • 5+ years of professional experience in development of PVD and CVD coatings in R&D and/or production within high-volume manufacturing
  • Familiarity with surface treatment and PVD processes, including chamber hardware and process parameters
  • Proven ability to conduct structured Failure Analysis and root-cause investigations and translate findings into automation improvements
  • Verbal and written English proficiency
