About the role

Senior Security Engineer to partner with engineering teams at Apple Services Engineering (ASE) to protect ASE services and design secure platforms and services. Lead security guidance early in design, conduct security reviews and threat modeling, automate security improvements, and drive platform-wide security improvements for Apple’s internet-facing services and backend infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary security team point of contact for multiple large engineering projects
  • Collaborate with engineering, site reliability, security, privacy, and offensive security teams
  • Conduct security reviews and develop threat models
  • Translate insights from security engagements into scalable methodologies
  • Define, automate, and advocate for platform-wide security improvements
  • Partner with colleagues to raise the security bar for all engineering teams
  • Act as a technical lead for the security of Apple’s internet-facing services and backend infrastructure
  • Develop proof-of-concept systems to automate security recommendations, vulnerability discovery, and process workflows
  • Use data to drive security review efficiency and prioritize high-value engagements
  • Assist in guiding risk-based secure design decisions for partners
  • Stay current on new security technologies, vulnerabilities, and methodologies
  • Possibly build relationships with teams to drive security improvements
  • Demonstrate business acumen to help partners implement workable secure designs and make informed risk decisions
  • Responsible for security decisions impacting millions of users

Qualifications

  • 10 or more years conducting security reviews, threat modeling, tracking findings, and communicating risk to engineering and leadership
  • Knowledge of distributed systems design patterns and security implications for cloud-scale platform services
  • Deep understanding of cloud-native architecture and managed platform services (compute, storage, networking, databases)
  • Experience with multi-tenant system design and SaaS/PaaS offerings
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, Go, or Swift)
  • Experience with security standard processes of third-party cloud environments
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Bonus: community contributions (public CVEs, bug bounty, open source tools, blogs)
  • Experience securing container orchestration systems (e.g., Kubernetes) and multi-tenant security implications
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is a plus
