About the role

Embedded systems-focused staff engineer translating vehicle-level safety concepts into embedded architecture, technical safety requirements, and hardware/software partitioning, while ensuring alignment with automotive standards and safety cases.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the systems and safety group. Take the vehicle-level safety concept, safety goals, and functional safety requirements as inputs, and feed embedded expertise back into hazard analysis and concept work.
  • Own the embedded technical safety concept. Derive technical safety requirements from the functional safety concept allocated to the embedded system, and allocate each to the right architectural element.
  • Architect across hardware and software. Define the embedded system architecture and the hardware/software partition, including the hardware-software interface (HSI).
  • Manage requirements and traceability. Maintain bidirectional traceability from safety goals to hardware and software requirements, and feed the safety case.
  • Steward automotive standards for the embedded org. Stay current on functional safety, SOTIF, cybersecurity, autonomous-product safety, process and component qualification, and integrate into daily work.
  • Set up the right side of the V. Collaborate with V&V and support DIAs with OEMs and suppliers (not owning downstream test execution).

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 8+ years in embedded systems with hardware and software depth.
  • Strong ISO 26262 experience focused on system-design (Part 4) and handoffs to Part 5 (hardware) and Part 6 (software).
  • Familiarity with broader automotive standards: SOTIF (ISO 21448), automotive cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434), UL 4600, ASPICE, AEC-Q10.
  • Fluency with requirements management and traceability (experience with Polarion).
  • Ability to read schematics and reason about embedded C/C++/Rust; understanding of hardware/software partitioning.
  • Clear understanding of the full V-model to set up downstream success.
